LEVERAGE LESSONS FROM GADHAFI’S LEVER PROBLEM;

HOW TO WIN LIKE THE YOUNG REBELS OF LIBYA

Gadhafi’s Lever problem was a major reason why he lost the Libya he ruled for almost 42 years. The following are Leverage Lessons you must learn from the fight for Libya.

Remember a Lever is a simple machine that helps you to magnify your limited effort, so that you can use your limited available effort to achieve more than you can logically achieve. A lever can be a person, a system, a tool. Physical examples of Levers are wheel barrows, elevator and catapult that can help you do more than you should logically do. A Lever practically magnifies your effort.

LEVERAGE LESSON 1.

MAKE DEPOSIT BEFORE YOU MAKE WITHDRAWALS

The ladder of life leads up and down as such no matter what stage you are in life you must sow good seeds, especially if your present position is a very lofty one. Gadhafi understood this deep secret; as a President he helped Niger a lot; he built roads and mosques for them, and gave them a lot of money.

7 months ago the challenges of life came upon Gadhafi and Niger was ready to help, Gadhafi got machinery fighters from Niger who were ready to fight for Gadhafi for free.

Making deposits is simply about doing things that will make it easier for you to get a helping hand in your time of need.

It will be easy for you to ask for help from a colleague in the office if you usually give such person a helping hand in their own time of need. It will be easier to ask an uncle for your school fees if in the time past you usually help that uncle of yours to wash or iron his clothes or stuffs like that.

It will be easier for you to ask for a loan and get it from a friend that you have helped in such situations.

In life recession occurs at one time or the other and you will need succor at that time, your succor will easily come from people, organizations, countries, states, departments, friends that you have helped in time past. I am not saying that you should help for the sake of coming back to ask for help, that will not be genuine though it can be said to be strategic and I am not saying that everyone you have helped will help you in your time of need, some will definitely not.

If I reverse Olakunle Soriyan’s quote which says “For every form of favor you get you will lose a degree of freedom” it will mean “for every form of favor you give, the recipient loses some degree of freedom putting them in a spot that makes them liable to you”.

Making deposits is not also limited to helping or giving aid. Smooth interpersonal relationship is also a way of making deposits. Be a friendly person, be nice to people, avoid quarrelling with friends and colleagues, make it easy for people to be around you, and don’t make it difficult for people to relate with you. These are deposits because when you eventually need leverage, even if it is a simple referral, it will be easier to move towards those with whom you have smooth relationship with and obviously it will be difficult to approach those with whom you don’t have smooth relationship.

Well for Gadhafi, he made deposits; unfortunately he did not make deposit on robust grounds, he got leverage from Niger when he needed help but unluckily the Lever (Niger) could not help him stay in power no matter how much they fought for him, at the least, they (Niger) can help him hide his son’s and may be Gadhafi himself will eventually run there to hide. In terms of smooth relationship he lacked it with the west.

Make your deposits on people below and above your ladder of life, subordinates and superiors, younger ones and elder ones, local and international, good and bad people.
