DO MORE THAN YOU CAN LOGICALLY DO, TO ACHIEVE MORE THAN YOU CAN LOGICALLY ACHIEVE
“It is the pursuit of success in our numerous endeavors that makes Problems and Challenges part of our daily living; and it is the quest to proffer Solutions to those Problems and Challenges that pushes us out of our beds every day”.
There are various ways through which individuals and organizations find solutions to their ever constant problems and challenges. While some struggle so much to get result, others achieve their goals with seemingly easy effort; while some people spend a long time going around a particular challenge to achieve set goals others in the same scenario record great result with minimal effort and with great speed.
The difference between the two parties I have illustrated is simply how and where they seek solutions. As we all know there are divers’ ways by which a problem can be solved, my goal here is to help you understand a particular kind of solution that I have observed, taken time to study and have concluded that it can be strategically employed to solve different kinds of problems, because of its potency.
This particular type of solution is tested and proven and it is based on the principle of the Lever which is a principle that has been in existence for about 2100 years now, so I have termed it Leverage SolutionTM.
To understand the term Leverage Solution and more importantly to know how to put it to use, I must explain the word Leverage, so come with me on a journey as I unveil Leverage SolutionTM.
Leverage is a term that can be used in any discipline; it is defined as the ability to achieve your seemingly great and overwhelming desires with your available limited resources. This simply means, Leverage is the ability to achieve a goal that you ordinarily and logically cannot achieve with the resources at your disposal.
Let me illustrate it mathematically.
Ordinarily: Resources 5 = Achievement 5
Using Leverage: Resources 5 = Achievement 50
Now, a ready-made question in your mind will be “if it logically takes resources of 5 to get achievement of 5, how then did resources of 5 resulted into achievement of 50”? The answer is very simple; Leverage was applied.
The word Leverage was coined from the word LEVER, a lever is a simple machine that helps to magnify human effort; this means the little effort or energy you have can be magnified to so as to achieve more result.
An example of a Lever is a wheel barrow; the work of a wheel barrow is simply to magnify human effort. For example when you have loads that you ordinarily or logically cannot carry at once, if you can lay your hands on a wheel barrow or some form of truck you immediately have the ability to carry the load. A practical example is those guys pushing wheel barrows filled with tubers of yam at market places, how will they have been able to move those tubers of yams from one place to another without a wheel barrow. What has happened is that the little energy that they possess has been magnified by the use of a LEVER which is wheel barrow.
Another example is an elevator. Imagine going to the 30th floor of a building without an elevator; you will spend a lot of time climbing the staircase and you will deploy a lot of energy, such energy that would have been used to perform other functions. Now with the use an elevator you will get to the 30th floor with almost zero energy and in seconds; what has happened is that the elevator which is a LEVER has magnified your available energy to gain speed;
Now I will drive this down to real life situations, in our daily pursuit whether in business work or life if you understand the principle of the Lever you will be able apply it to magnify your limited effort in various pursuit.
HOW TO MAGNIFY YOUR LIMITED EFFORT SO AS TO ACHIEVE ABOVE LOGICAL RESULTS
The best way to understand how limited efforts can be magnified is to understand the machine called the LEVER.
A lever is always consist of 3 parts
- 1. Load
- 2. Effort
- 3. Pivot
Load:
Load in this context are your dreams, desires, aspirations, targets, visions, goals. I am sure you have loads you are either carrying or you are trying to carry.
Effort:
Effort is simply what you have at your disposal; it could be a skill, talent, a position, an experience you got somewhere, an expertise or even a course you have studied. I am also sure that you have some measure of effort.( Take some time to meditate and draw a list of what you can consider your effort).
Pivot:
Pivot is the missing link, it is that part that is not within you; a pivot is simply point around which you bend your limited effort. A pivot is an external factor that you bring into your pursuit. A pivot can be a person, system, government, company, group of persons……
Now we have the equation; your limited effort turned around a pivot equals a magnified effort that will bring about the achievement of great goals.
Whenever you employ this equation in your pursuit you will enjoy a Leverage Solution.
Let me give a practical example here because I want you all to carry out an assignment.
A prolific writer (Solomon) who has written a book, but it’s still in the draft stage, Solomon’s greatest desire is to publish the book but he doesn’t have money to publish the book. How does he solve this problem or achieve his goals using Leverage Solutions? Let’s analyze it.
v His effort is the ability to write, this could have been learnt or it could be his talent.
v His Load is the desire to publish the book; take note his dream is not money but publishing
v His pivot could be a publishing house (Macmil Publishers)
With the three elements listed Solomon can receive Leverage Solutions in the following ways.
- He can discuss with Macmil Publishers to publish the book and market it under an agreed profit sharing ratio. What this means is that his limited effort which is the book in draft form is turned around the publishing house which is the pivot and then he gets his book published and begins to make sales which is his great goal that he could not have been able to achieve logically.
- He can decide to do other things like become a proof reader, editor, transcriber for Macmil Publishers in return for publishing a particular number of his books
Wow, what a great way to achieve overwhelming goals easily.
From my next blog I will begin to give you names Leverage Solutions I have identified, and more real life examples of people who employ the principle of the lever to their pursuit.
For now I will leave you with an assignment:
ACTION PATH
Now I want you to bring this principle of Leverage you have learnt into real life situation using the following steps.
- Write down your scary goals
- Write out what you have as effort
- Write out what you don’t have; this is also what you need; this is the pivot you need.
Try as much as possible not to identify money as your need. The pivot you need could be an experience, or some form of knowledge, capacity, equipment, or some other form of resources that is not money.
Also bear in mind that whenever the principle of Leverage is at work, someone must use some measure if effort, some other party must be a pivot, so I identifying your effort, make sure it is something that other can benefit from no matter how little. The idea is you must give what you have to get what you want.
In closing life does not answer to wishes, life does not answer to knowledge, an ounce of action is more potent and more effective that a ton of knowledge. Life only answers to what you do.
Do something today with what you have learnt
