Performance Appraisal is one of the most important tools available for management to be continuously aware of the performing ability of individual workers; this without doubt is critical to the continuous growth of the organization in terms operations, service quality and customer satisfaction.
Performance Appraisal, however is a two edged critical resource, if designed, deployed and utilized effectively it will achieve continuous improvement in performance of staff, if however it’s deployment is associated with lack of proper understanding by the users, it becomes a tool for demotivation, stiff relationships and eventually declining performance.
You can’t however decide not to measure performance as it is no more news that organizations that intentionally measure and manage the performance of their employees outperform organizations that don’t. So the question is “what do you do?” and the answer is simple; “train your staff about the intricacies of Performance Appraisal.”
